Meet Lois M. Shofer, Ph. D. '67
Where do you live?
Live half a year in Crownsville, Maryland and other half in Naples, Florida
What do you do for work currently?
Retired professor emerita, US Coast Guard 100 Gross Ton Master Captain for a few more years
What did you learn at IC that helped you get to where you are today (personally or professionally)?
Work hard, play hard and enjoy life. Met some lifelong friends as well.
How did you get involved with IC after graduating (did you volunteer? Did you speak in a classroom? Attend events?)?
I believe in giving back: time, talent and treasure…. When working in higher education I would go as IC rep to local high school college nights in my area and talk to prospective students about IC. Always financially support annual giving
Why do you LOVE IC?
It was a wonderful experience —small enough to get personalized attention if need be and large enough to get lost if needed some extra space
Anything else interesting/pertinent that you’d like to include: (Are you close with other alumni? A professor you loved? Student orgs you were involved with?)
We had Greeks back then so lots going on. Also involved with Ithacan newspaper. Yes, still in touch with some classmates as we grow old together! Professor Helen Blauvelt was my anatomy prof who instilled the love of learning in me.
