Meet Meghan Swope '11
Where do you live?
Windermere, Florida (10 minutes from Walt Disney World)
What do you do for work currently?
I'm currently the Digital Media Director for the American College of Radiology. I lead a team that's creating digital experiences in healthcare that empower radiologists, radiation oncologists, medical physicists and nuclear medicine physicians to deliver the highest quality care for all. My days are never boring as I put my Communications Management and Design (CMD) degree to use working across website content strategy and creation, digital user experience, social media, marketing operations, analytics and business strategy.
What did you learn at IC that helped you get to where you are today (personally or professionally)?
Always be curious, question everything (especially your assumptions), embrace challenge and change, and prioritize people and relationships.
More specifically, I took a course as a First Year on Systems Thinking and Design that changed the way I view challenges and opportunities and taught me to anticipate the upstream and downstream impacts of any given choice or action.
How did you get involved with IC after graduating (did you volunteer? Did you speak in a classroom? Attend events?)?
I served on the Park Scholar Program Alumni Advisory Board from 2014-2019, providing strategic counsel for the Program, the Park School and the Scholars' Ithaca-based community service projects. My favorite aspect was mentoring current students and lending a hand with resume and reel review workshops. I also helped organize alumni gatherings in the Washington, DC region where I spent a decade after graduation, including a community service day at DC Central Kitchen. I volunteered for our 10 Year Reunion Committee for the Class of 2011, with a focus on driving diversity and inclusion by providing opportunities for underrepresented populations. I was proud to be one of our Committee's top fundraisers, helping to contribute over $5,700 to scholarships in a challenging economic time during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Why do you LOVE IC?
It's a great place to experience hands-on learning from Day 1 of First Year, and it's always a great day to be a Bomber!
