Raised in blue-collar Ogdensburg, New York, Jason Trumble built a three-decade-plus career rooted in service, leadership, and dedication to education. A 1992 graduate of Ithaca College, the four-time national qualifier in cross country credits running as a cornerstone in helping him embark on a journey that would ultimately shape generations of students in the Ithaca City School District.
For 33 years, Jason served as a teacher, coach, and administrator, beginning as a Social Studies teacher and boys Cross Country and Track coach at IHS (1992-2004). In 1998, Jason was awarded the Ithaca Journal Coach of the Year.
His passion for mentorship led him into administration, where he held leadership roles at the building and district levels, and he is the third longest-tenured administrator in the district’s 135 years. Jason’s impact on the IHS community resulted in unprecedented stability, resulting in the creation of a “leadership academy” for new administrators. Nine mentees currently are administrators in the district.
Under his leadership, Ithaca High gained national recognition, consistently ranking among America’s Best High Schools (US News & World Report), and earned accolades for STEM excellence. His commitment to IHS fostered deep partnerships with local organizations, which expanded opportunities for students.
Honored with numerous awards — including SAANYS Principal of the Year, ESPN’s Community Game Changer Award, and the prestigious Cornell TOGO Award — Jason established a legacy of educational excellence. A consummate educator, he looks forward to finding creative ways to support young people in his retirement.
He is grateful to Ithaca College, coach Jim Nichols, and his many teammates for providing the foundation that shaped his career and his approach to education in our local community.
Jason is married to Christine (Grella) Trumble ’92. They have three grown daughters, all educated in the ICSD, and each working for social justice in their particular fields.
